I am a Professor of Biomedical Sciences at the Redox Biology Center and the School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL). I graduated with a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), and was postdoctoral fellow at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Since 2009 I have led an independent research group that focuses on studying the role of redox signaling, protein/organelle quality control mechanisms, and metabolism in neurodegenerative diseases and brain injury. I have participated as an ad hoc reviewer for a number of scientific journals and grant founding agencies (nationally and internationally). I am an active member of the Society for Neuroscience and the Society of Toxicology and have also received different awards and recognitions nationally and internationally.
