What is Biochemistry?
Biochemistry is a major for students who want to understand the chemistry of processes that occur in living organisms. Currently, there are about 300 Biochemistry undergraduate majors.
Do you ever wonder what chemical reactions happen in a human muscle when it contracts? How do plants chemically change carbon dioxide from the air into sugar in their leaves? Why do animals and people need bacterial enzymes to help digest their food completely and what happens when the bacteria get out of balance? How do chemical processes in the brain determine our sleep habits? Or how much pain we feel?
Biochemistry is a discipline in which we strive to provide answers to such questions by studying the molecules involved.
