All students in the program are supported by an assistantship that includes a stipend of at least $23,000 annually. In addition, the Department pays the Tuition and 79% of the basic individual Health Insurance benefits for all students with assistantships, so the estimated cost of living for students in the Program is approximately $8,000 for the academic year (~$12,000 annually). Several supplementary scholarships and fellowships ranging from $1,000 to $7,000 are awarded each year on a competitive basis to both currently enrolled and incoming graduate students.  Upon admittance to Ph.D. candidacy, the stipend is increased by $1000.
