Lincoln has many cultural opportunities. The Sheldon Art Gallery houses a comprehensive collection of 20th century American art. The Lied Center for the Performing Arts brings in an exciting array of internationally acclaimed artists every season. The Pershing Center hosts popular musicians and national recording artists. The Lincoln Community Playhouse, the Flatwater Shakespeare Company, and the Haymarket Theatre offer entertaining seasons of musicals and live theater that are largely local productions.

The Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center presents a stimulating independent film series. Several museums are also clustered in the downtown area including the Museum of Nebraska History, the UNL State Museum, and the Lincoln Children's Museum.
