Apply to the program
Please submit to the Department or to the Graduate College:
*An Application Form. The complete application
packet is available from the Department of Biochemistry (contact).
You are strongly encouraged to submit your application electronically.
*Two official transcripts from every college
or university attended. Each transcript must be on file before
we can take formal action.
*Graduate Record Exam. The GRE (General
Area) is required. The Subject Area exam in Biochemistry is recommended.
Follow this link for information on the GRE, including On-line Registration,
Testing Sites and Sample Questions.
*Three letters of recommendation. Recommendation
request form.
*Statement of Interest. We require a
one-page description of short and long term career goals and research
interests. Students have the option of entering a particular lab
directly; however, others rotate through several labs before making
a selection. If you have interest in a particular research area
or professor, please indicate this in your statement.
*Graduate Application Fee. A $45 (non-refundable)
check or money order made out to UNL Graduate Studies should be
attached to the application. Your full name must appear on the check.
(You may also pay by credit card if you apply online.)
This is required of all new applicants, students who are currently
in a graduate program and wish to change majors, and students who
were previously enrolled as graduate students at UNL but have not
registered through Graduate Studies in the past four years. This
fee is sometimes paid by the Department in case of need.
The application deadline is March
1. Receipt of your application will be acknowledged.
For International Students: In addition
to providing the materials listed above, every non-U.S. citizen
must also include:
*Financial Resource Certification form.
We cannot process your admission without it. Documentation of support
will also be required of anyone seeking an F-1 (Student) Visa or
a J-1 (Exchange Visitor) Visa. Download
form.
* English Proficiency: TOEFL
score (minimum of 550, or 213 for the computer-based test; 79 for
internet based score).
